In this post, I am going to write about Creating and Arranging Layers and Layer Groups in Photoshop CS3. You can find useful tips about layer groups, layers, layer via copy command, layer via cut command, background from layer command.

1. What is a Layer Group ?

A layer group is a folder that keeps layers in it. You can apply a mask, blending mode to a layer group. Then it will affects all the layers inside the group. Layer groups help us to organize layers in the layers palette.

2. Do all Layers in a file have the same resolution and color profile ?

Yes. Layers get together to composite the whole picture. You can change the order and attributes of layers.

3. When you are creating a web document in Photoshop CS3 ,Which options can you select from background content?

White, Transparent and Background color are the  options.

4. How can you delete a layer by pressing Delete button from keyboard ?

The only way to execute this , is selecting move tool. When move tool is selected in the tool box, you can delete a layer after select it and pressing delete from the keyboard.

5. What is Layer Comps Palette ?

The layer comps palette keeps a snapshot of certain view of your document. Such as the visibility of a later, its position in the document, its styles or any combination of the three.

6. What does it mean when you saw a caution icon nearby a layer comp ?

Caution icon caution informs you, when the layer comp no longer restored, due to deleting any of layers, merger of layers, conversion of the layer to background, or color conversion.

7. Why are we using clipping groups ?

Because, a clipping mask enables a user to clip a layer by the contents of the layer beneath it. Clipping group consist of a clipping mask and a masked layer. Sometimes you can group masked layers in a group file and masked them together once. In a clipping mask the layer which one’s content will be using for mask is always below the clipping mask layer. So

8. Can i convert a vector mask to layer mask ?

Yes you can. To convert a vector mask to a layer mask, select the layer containing the vector mask you want to convert, and choose Layer > Rasterize > Vector Mask.

Once you rasterize a vector mask, you can’t change it back into vector object.
